In light of CBSE’s decision to conduct a Proficiency Test to assess students’ aptitude for various subjects, Meritnation.com has launched Proficiency Tests for CBSE students. Meritnation.com’s Proficiency Tests for class X are available for Maths & Science. The Proficiency Test to be conducted by CBSE is an optional exam that students currently in class X, can take in the month of May/June 2011.
CBSE’s decision to conduct this test for students of class X is an attempt to provide students an opportunity to assess their skills and abilities related to different subjects in manner that is a break-away from the conventional tests. Students can use the results on this test as an indicator to guide them in the selection of subjects/stream at the senior secondary level. A 2 ½ hour long, paper-pencil test of 100 marks is expected to help students assess their knowledge of concepts and ability to apply conceptual understanding in solving everyday problems. The format of the Proficiency Test discourages rote learning and will not include questions that involve direct recall based on memory. The test will also have negative marks for wrong answers.
