CBSE to introduce English novels from class IXPavan Chauhan | June 5th, 2012 at 05:35pm The Central Board of Secondary Education is aiming to foster reading habits in students by introducing novels for classes IX-XII. With this attempt, more emphasis will be laid on teaching language skills rather than merely providing verbose notes which makes studies monotonous and mundane. This attempt of CBSE would nurture reading habits among students of Classes XI and XII as well as among students who are a part of the Formative Assessment in CCE of Classes IX and X. As per the revised guidelines of the curriculum in English language, CBSE has introduced the following novels for students of Classes IX to XII (w.e.f. 2012-13 for classes IX and XI and w.e.f. 2013-14 for classes X and XII)
As per the guidelines, out of the two novels prescribed at each level, every school has the option to choose and teach students either of the two novels for the sake of examination. All the novels would be introduced in expanded form. 21. Kopal | July 29th, 2012 at 1:30 pm
Good choice on CBSE’s part. I’m an ardent reader and that is the reason for my good english. Frankly, I’m hoping this will help improve the atrocious english of some people…..
Reading is a habit that will benefit you your whole life, so I see nothing wrong in 11th and 12th Class students reading 1 or 2 books a year….

101. preet | October 16th, 2012 at 6:13 pm
being a teacher i should say that cbse is making the students and the teachers stressed on increasing books dy by day in the syllabus. Already we have 3 English books which was difficult to cover during such a short teaching period, and over that we got a novel as well to complete……… CBSE should think about the average and the under average students who are simply unable to learn their given syllabus the how do cbse expect them to learn a novel as well.
I stongly oppose this idea of cbse………

already we many things and books to learn attached to that the novel is also becoming a burden to us.
129. ragavendhran | May 20th, 2013 at 9:09 am
i need the summary also to be included in notes provided by meritnation.
this book also doesn’t have the summary at the end of each chapter.
this is 10th we all can’t waste time in just reading the novel.
pls think of us.dont give burden to us.
